Common Signs Your Car Needs a Tune Up
What is a tune up? Does my car need a tune up? These may be questions you find yourself asking if your car doesn't seem to be running right. Well, the thing is, a tune up can vary from car to car depending on what sort of issues it is having. A tune is often performed in between scheduled services when a vehicle starts to act differently then it should. It usually includes quick services that are inexpensive to complete, such as replacing a filter. The following are a few of the most common issues that people run into when driving their cars if it is due for a tune up.
Deceased Fuel Efficiency
A drop in your MPGs can be caused by many different problems, some big, but many are pretty small. While larger issues could include an exhaust leak, you may be able to restore your fuel efficiency by replacing the air filter, installing new ignition coils or cleaning or replacing a micro-sensor.
Does your car's engine seem like it is going to die when you're at a stoplight or stop sign? Or maybe it does die? This is a serious issue that doesn't usually require a serious fix. This could be caused by a clogged fuel filter, dirty fuel injectors or it may be time to replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires.
If your car is not getting fuel, oxygen and spark into the combustion chamber it's going to have a hard time starting, and likely won't start. If the vehicle cranks over and over it may not be getting gas, so be sure to check the fuel system. If the vehicle does nothing when the key is turned it could be time for a new battery.
A car that has trouble getting up to speed or maintaining a certain speed is likely due for a tune up. Many of the above issued fixes will resolve performance issues like this as well. However, it may be necessary to complete computer diagnostics for further analysis.
