When does my car need a tune up?

When does my car need a tune up?Every vehicle is designed with maintenance in mind. If you check your owner's manual you will find a breakdown of maintenance services required by your car or truck and the milage point that they need to be completed at. This scheduled maintenance is often referred to as 30/60/90K maintenance, but if also includes things like oil changes, fluid flushes, computer diagnostics and more. Sometimes though, your car may begin to run rough between these scheduled services. This is when it may be time for a tune up!

First, what is a tune up?

A tune up usually consists of conducting minor maintenance services that are cheap and quick to do. They may include services such as replacing spark plugs that have become corroded or burnt, replacing a clogged fuel filter or air filter, flushing fluids, installing a new battery and much more. A tune up and the services involved generally depends on the issues that your car is having. If you're between major maintenance appointments but your vehicle is giving you any of the following trouble be sure to make an appointment for a tune up with your local auto repair shop.

Running rough

If your car is experiencing a rough idle it will likely need a tune up. It may need something as simple as a new fuel filter, but it could likely benefit from new spark plugs and plug wires as well.

Poor fuel economy

There are many things that can cause a vehicle to get poor fuel economy. If you've noticed a drop in your MPGs make an appointment with your local auto repair shop to have the issue properly diagnosed.

Stalling

A dangerous problem that vehicles can have is stalling. This means that the engine suddenly dies while driving or while at a stop light or sign. This prevents you from being able to properly control your vehicle. This may be a result of a malfunctioning sensor or poor fuel delivery.

Hard starting

A vehicle that is hard to start could be suffering from any number of issues. However sometimes the problem is relatively small. To find out what is making your car cranky visit a local auto repair shop.
